ISIS claims attack against SDF fighter in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Islamic State (ISIS), through close media outlets, claimed responsibility for targeting a fighter of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

ISIS-run Amaq news agency said in a statement that two days earlier the group’s militants shot at an SDF fighter in the town of Abu Hamam, 80 kilometers east of Deir ez-Zor.

The attack caused the SDF fighter to sustain wounds, and he was transferred to a hospital for treatment.

A local source from the town told North Press that Ahmad al-Sodat was shot in the middle of al-Qahawi market in Abu Hamam, stressing that he trades in food products and has not joined any military or political parties.

Two civilians were injured on two separate incidents on Feb. 17 by unknown gunmen, though likely affiliated with the ISIS, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
