Following initial okay, opposition rejects aid delivered via government
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Late on Saturday, Syrian opposition factions refuse to receive medical and humanitarian aid, as well as food products, coming from areas under the control of the Syrian government. This comes hours after giving an okay.
Office for Humanitarian Affairs in the city of Aleppo stated that yesterday, in a written note to the Governor of Aleppo, humanitarian organizations said they received a ministerial okay to send an aid convoy to opposition-held areas.
The note added that the organizations would like to postpone the aforementioned convoy until further notice “due to logistical issues in the other side and the other side’s refusal to allow the convoy to enter. A new date will be coordinated for the entry of aid to the population affected by the earthquake.”
The office indicated it was scheduled that aid be delivered via the Saraqib crossing in the countryside of Idlib, adding trucks loaded with aid were ready to cross since the early hours of the day. However, the sudden refusal by factions precluded aid be delivered on time.
Idlib, which is under the control of opposition factions and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), has been one of the hardest-hit areas by the earthquake on February 6.
