Kurdish Red Crescent dispatches aid convoy to Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Kurdish Red Crescent sent a second aid convoy to the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo city on Saturday in order to help with earthquake relief efforts.
Ahmad Ibrahim, an official at the Kurdish Red Crescent, told North Press, “Today, we are dispatching a second aid convoy for Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood. The convoy consists of teams, as well as medical and relief supplies.”
At dawn on Monday, February 6, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Syria and Turkey, killing more than 25.000 people and injuring many more, as well as destroying thousands of buildings.

“There are paramedics, anesthesiologist assistants and physicians in the convoy. As for relief products, there is food, blankets, tents and other items,” Ibrahim added.
Ibrahim stated that the convoy consisted of two big trucks and one commercial vehicle.
He said that they would head to the neighborhood today and start distributing aid to those affected.
However, the Rojava Information Center (RIC), a volunteer-staffed information center in northeast Syria, cited a source from the Kurdish Red Crescent as saying that aid delivery is hampered by Syrian government forces.
“The Syrian government has demanded they give up half of their supplies, including one ambulance, in order to pass into the earthquake-affected areas,” RIC tweeted.
On Thursday, the Kurdish Red Crescent sent the first such convoy, which included similar supplies.
