Temporary Shelters Set Up in Syria’s Hama for People Affected by Earthquake
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Mahmoud Zanbu’a, the Governor of Hama, said on Wednesday that several schools, the local stadium, gyms, and some headquarters affiliated with the Syrian government in Hama were repurposed as temporary shelters for those affected by the earthquake.
Zanbu’a stated to the pro-government al-Watan newspaper that, so far, the number of fatalities has reached 51 dead and 67 injured in Hama Governorate.
In government-held areas, the death toll has reached 1.262 dead and 2.285 injured so far, as rescue operations are ongoing.
People of Hama, similar to all Syrian cities, have resorted to temporary shelters, mosques, churches, and public parks, fearing aftershocks like the one that hit some areas on Tuesday evening.
On Monday at 4:17 am, Syria and Turkey were rocked by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake whose epicenter was located near Gaziantep, Turkey, and killed thousands of people in the both countries.
