No water, bread in Aleppo’s Earthquake-Affected neighborhoods
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – A source in Aleppo governorate said on Wednesday that the water network in the various eastern neighborhoods of the city was damaged as a result of the earthquake, which led to the cessation of water pumping to those neighborhoods.
In an exclusive statement to North Press, the source indicated that the collapse of residential buildings damaged the water network in the eastern neighborhoods.
The source stated that the water will be pumped soon to the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo, without specifying the date.
In this regard, Abdulhamid Qabbani, 42, a resident of al-Ferdous neighborhood in Aleppo, said that they are forced to fill small containers from the houses that contain a little drinking water, and they sometimes buy mineral water bottles.
On the other hand, bread suppliers in those neighborhoods stopped distributing it to the families, amid a state of fear and panic prevailing among the residents due to the aftershocks that take place every now and then and the collapse of new buildings.
On Monday at 4:17 am, Syria and Turkey were rocked by an 7.8-magnitude earthquake whose epicenter was located near Gaziantep, southern Turkey, and killed thousands of people in the both countries.
Aleppo is among the worst-hit areas in Syria. So far, 52 building have collapsed, and the number is likely to increase, especially since collapsed buildings have damaged neighboring buildings.
