Syria aftermath earthquake: 2.098 dead, 4.106 injured
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The death toll as a result of the earthquake hit Syria on Feb. 6 has risen to 2.098 people and the number of injured people to 4.106 in all Syrian regions.
a provisional count announced by the Syrian Ministry of Health, the Civil Defense in Idlib, and the Autonomous Administration of North and East (AANES).
The Civil Defense in Idlib, affiliated with Syrian opposition, announced on Wednesday that 1.280 people died and 2.600 others were injured in northwest Syria. The number is expected to rise as hundreds of families are still under the rubble.
The Syrian government’s Ministry of Health registered the death of 812 people and the injury of 1.449 in the governorates of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama, Tartus, and Idlib countryside. These figures are not final as rescue teams are still searching for victims and survivors under the rubble.
According to the Health Board of the AANES, six people died and 57 were injured in its areas in North and East Syria.
On Feb. 6, at 04:17 am, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Syria and Turkey, killing and injuring thousands of people and destroying thousands of buildings.
