DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would consider the possibility of supplying Ukraine with its ‘Iron Dome’ air defense system, but also stressed that his country did not want any confrontation with Russia.
“We are considering this issue in accordance with our national interests,” Netanyahu said in an interview with the French LCI TV Channel during his visit to France.
“Israel does not want confrontation with Russia or incidents between military aircraft of both countries in Syria’s airspace,” he added.
The ‘Iron Dome’ is a mobile all-weather air defense system employed by Israel, and Ukraine has long sought it out in order to counter Russian missiles.
The Israeli prime minister noted that he could not make any promises to Ukraine, adding, “I will study this matter and respond in this regard in the most appropriate manner.”
He further explained that his country is currently providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Netanyahu pointed out that both Russian and Israeli airplanes are flying close to each other in the Syrian airspace, adding, “So far we have managed to avoid any confrontation.”
“We do not want military confrontation with Russia. I do not think it will serve anyone’s purpose,” he stressed.
Since the beginning of the Russia-Ukrainian conflict, Israel has only provided humanitarian support to Ukraine, as well as receiving hundreds of refugees, but avoiding giving military support to either side.
