198 ISIS Suspects Arrested in Syria in January – CENTCOM
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US-led Global Coalition conducted 10 partnered counter-ISIS operations in Syria in the month of January, said US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Thursday.
According to a CENTCOM press release, the operations resulted in the arrest of 198 ISIS suspects and death of two. The US conducted no unilateral counter-ISIS operations in Syria in the past month.
A majority of the arrests in Syria – 127 – are the work of a joint operation with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in Raqqa, Tabqa, and their vicinities, which ended today.
“We rely heavily on the Syrian Democratic Forces to fight against ISIS,” Gen. Michael ‘Eric’ Kurilla, CENTCOM Commander, said in the statement.
“While our efforts have degraded ISIS, the group’s vile ideology remains uncontained and unconstrained. ISIS continues to represent a threat not only to Iraq and Syria, but to the stability and security of the region. Therefore, we must continue to fight against ISIS alongside our partners,” Gen. Kurilla said.
