Erdogan Will Invade NE Syria in March – HDP

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – At a speech on Tuesday, Pervin Buldan, the co-chair of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Turkey accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of using war against Syria’s Kurds as a distraction in the run up to May’s general and presidential elections.

Buldan warned that Erdogan may launch another invasion of northeast Syria in March. “They want to cover up the hunger and poverty they have caused to society with the politics of war,” she declared.

She accused the ruling Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the far-right Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) on basing their alliance on the twin pillars of “political conspiracies and a policy of war”. The way to frustrate their alliance, the Kurdish politician said, is to form an “anti-war coalition”.

Buldan also charged the “AKP-MHP conspiracy alliance” with intervening in the election process by pressuring Turkey’s Constitutional Court to freeze the HDP’s funds and possibly banning the party before the coming elections.

Furthermore, the party’s co-chair put into question the legality of Erdogan’s candidacy for president. According to the Turkish constitution, presidential terms are limited to two; this would be Erdogan’s third. “His candidacy is not legitimate,” Buldan declared.

She urged the voters not be fooled by the opposition either. “We know that this country is not doomed to bipolar politics,” Buldan said referring to the ‘National Alliance’, the main opposition coalition trying to garner voters displeased with the current government. The six-party coalition has so far kept mum about Turkey’s Kurdish minority.
