Asayish abort escape attempt by ISIS families at Hawl Camp
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Late on Monday night, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) said they aborted an attempt to flee the Hawl Camp by women of the Islamic State (ISIS).
A security source told North Press that four women along with their children of Turkish and Chinese backgrounds sought to flee the annex.
The annex is home to foreign fighters’ families who are estimated at 8.200 individuals, according to the camp’s management.
The attempt was aborted by the security personnel at the camp.
On Dec. 5, 2022, a military source told North Press that a number of Iraqi families were able to break away from the camp under fog.
The last such an attempt by ISIS families was recorded on Nov. 25, 2022 according to Jihan Hannan an administrator in the camp.
Hawl Camp, 45 km east of the city of Hasakah, is home for 55.829 individuals, including 28.725 Iraqis, 18.850 Syrians and 8.254 of foreign nationalities, according to the latest statistics obtained by North Press.
