Total curfew starts in Syria’s Raqqa as search for ISIS continues

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Internal Security Forces of North and east Syria (Asayish) imposed a total curfew on the city of Raqqa, in northern Syria, days after the start of a security operation in Raqqa, Tabqa and their countryside to pursue militants of the Islamic State (ISIS).

Operation “Retaliation for Raqqa Martyrs” was launched by the SDF and the Asayish backed by the forces of the US-led Global Coalition, following an ISIS attack on the headquarters of the Asayish in Raqqa on December 26, 2022.

On Monday, the Interior Committee of the Raqqa Civil Council announced a total curfew would start on Tuesday from six in the morning until eight in the evening.

The Asayish deployed in the vicinity of al-Diri’ah neighborhood in the west of the city, and al-Mashlab neighborhood in the east.

According to statements published by the SDF Media Center regarding the operation, the forces detained Wali al-Raqqa (a local ISIS leader), as well as ISIS operatives, and seized several weapons, ammunition, booklets on extremism and ISIS badges.
