Dozens of women participate in handicraft exhibition in Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the sixth handicraft exhibition of North and East Syria opened in the city of Qamishli with the participation of dozens of women from across Syria.

About 67 women participated in the exhibition which was named ‘little dreams’.

The exhibited handicrafts included jewelry, clothes, utensils, embroidered pieces, paintings and more.

Siham Ahmad, the exhibition’s supervisor and coordinator, said that the reason behind holding these events is “to encourage women to make an income for them and their families in light of the current economic crisis.”

She added that some of the participating women were IDPs from different areas of Syria. They also included widows, divorcées and cancer patients.

Ahmad said that the idea of holding exhibitions started in 2022. “At first, we were 13 women; now we are 60.”

She added that the idea was well received by women, but that they see difficulty in finding a place to display their handicrafts and in securing the needed products in light of the skyrocketing prices.

The exhibition takes place every two or three months.
