People in al-Bab demand incriminating government for “using chemical weapons”

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of people in the city of al-Bab, in eastern Aleppo, organized on Sunday a sit-in in the city center, calling for holding the Syrian government accountable for deploying chemical weapons against Syrians in 2018.

A local source told North Press, “The sit-in came following the statement of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons [OPCW] which held the Damascus government accountable for the chemical massacre in April 2018.”

The source added that the residents raised placards that demanded taking measurements against the Syrian government in line with Chapter 7 of the United Nations Charter.

The protesters also rejected “recent Turkish ambitions to normalize relations with Damascus.”

On Friday, OPCW blamed the Syrian government for using chemical weapons in an attack against the city of Douma in Rif Dimashq governorate on April 7, 2018. At the time, the government was on an offensive against opposition factions to take the area back.
