SDF arrests ISIS operative in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Sunday that it arrested an Islamic State (ISIS) militant involved in distributing ammunition to ISIS sleeper cells in the Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
The SDF media center said in a statement that the SDF arrested the “terrorist” after raiding the town of Diban in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
Weapons and ammunition in his possession were also seized, according to the statement.
This comes as part of ‘Operation Retaliation for Raqqa Martyrs’ which was launched by the SDF and the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) and is backed by the US-led Global Coalition.
The campaign, launched on January 25, came as a response to the ISIS attack on an Asayish security center on December 26, 2022 in Raqqa, which killed six SDF and Asayish fighters.
