IDF kills Syrian man, wounds another in Golan Heights

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) killed a Syrian man and wounded another as they approached the border fence in the Golan Heights in southern Syria.

The IDF reported that two “armed men” had “crossed the border line from Syrian territory to Israeli territory and had approached the fence in the southern Golan Heights” on Sunday morning.

The IDF claims to have fired warning shots and wounded one man as they attempted to arrest them.

According to the Israeli Haaretz newspaper, the IDF killed one man and seriously wounded the other.

“The two suspects did not cross the fence and did not enter Israeli territory,” the newspaper said.

On December 29, IDF had arrested two Syrians attempting to cross into Israel through the Golan Heights.

The Golan Heights have been occupied by Israel since 1967 and were officially annexed in 1981. The United States recognized Israeli sovereignty over Golan in 2019. Most of the international community considers it an illegal occupation.
