IED blast injures 2 children in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, two siblings sustained critical injuries in an IED explosion, most likely belong to Islamic State (ISIS), in a town east of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

A local source from the town of al-Mayadin, 40 km east of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press that the two siblings, Abdurrahman al-Askar, 11, and Hamza al-Askar, 9, were injured in a landmine, left by ISIS, exploded.”

The IED exploded as the two boys were playing near their house in al-Mayadin, according to the source.

They were transported to al-Salam Hospital in the town and they are in critical conditions due to receiving several pieces of shrapnel in different parts of their bodies, the source said, citing a doctor form the hospital as saying.

Mines, explosive bombs, and unexploded ordnances spread in the areas which witnessed battles among the conflicting parties in Syria.

Remnants of war are widely spread in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor since it was the last stronghold of ISIS, putting human life and especially children at risk.

On Jan. 16, two children were killed and three others were injured in a landmine explosion that is most likely left by ISIS in a town east of Deir ez-Zor.
