ISIS claims attack against SDF checkpoint in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Islamic State (ISIS), through close media outlets, claimed responsibility for targeting a checkpoint of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
ISIS-run news agency said in a statement militants of the group targeted the SDF checkpoint at the entrance to the town of Hawaij, 40 kilometers east Deir ez-Zor with machineguns.
The statement added that the attack claimed lives of two SDF fighters.
On Wednesday, Hajin Military Council, a military formation affiliated to the SDF, announced on its official website that two of its fighters lost their lives in an armed attack on a checkpoint in Hawaij.
Areas of Deir ez-Zor witness increasing attacks against the SDF amid growing activities of ISIS sleeper cells in the region.
