Germany to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Germany announced on Wednesday that it would provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 battle tanks, and called on other countries to do the same.

The German government said in a statement that it would provide Ukraine with a company of Leopard 2 A6 tanks, consisting of 14 vehicles, from its own stocks. This would later be increased to a total of two battalions, or 88 tanks.

Previously, US officials announced that the US would send M1 Abrams tanks to help Ukraine push back Russian forces.

On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the intentions of Germany and the US as a “disastrous plan”.

“It is yet another fallacy, a rather profound one,” Peskov told reporters.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been ongoing since February last year. It has killed and wounded thousands of Ukrainian civilians and displaced millions more.
