Two Turkish military convoys enter Syria within 24 hours

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday night, two military convoys of the Turkish forces arrived at the Turkish military bases in northwestern Syria.

A local source told North Press that a Turkish convoy, including military equipment and personnel carriers, in addition to live ammunition and soldiers, entered the city of Azaz, north of Aleppo, from Bab al-Salameh border crossing.

The source added that the convoy passed through the border crossing and then headed to the Nada military base east of Azaz, accompanied by members of the Third Legion, a Syrian Turkish-backed faction.

A second military convoy from Turkey, consisting of seven armored vehicles, entered Syria’s Idlib Governorate yesterday evening.

An exclusive source told North Press that the Turkish convoy entered through the Kafr Lossin border crossing, north of Idlib, and headed to the Turkish bases in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib. It is the third convoy to enter Syria in 2023.

Turkey is continuing to enlarge its military footprint in the country despite thawing ties between the Syrian and Turkish governments. In December 2022, the Syrian, Russian and Turkish defense ministers had met in Moscow.

Turkey has also persisted in trying to attain a green light for a new military operation against northeast Syria.

On January 16, the Turkish forces sent military reinforcements to bases deployed in Idlib, coinciding with a military escalation between the Syrian government forces and armed opposition factions in the area.
