New graffiti in Suwayda call for uprising against Syrian government

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Unknown civilians spray-painted the word ‘traitor’ and called for a general uprising on the walls of schools and the post office in Hazem, a village north of Suwayda.

Local sources told North Press that they found the anti-government slogans this morning. The graffiti included phrases such as ‘Bashar al-Assad is a drug dealer’, ‘the captagon regime is trading baby formula’, ‘we represent the poor people, rise up for your dignity’, ‘yes for a generous and dignified life’ and more.

The day before yesterday, similar slogans appeared written on two schools in the city of Suwayda.

The Suwayda Governorate is witnessing protests against worsening living conditions on a weekly basis. The demonstrators call for the release of detainees and the implementation of UN Resolution 2254, which calls for a political solution to Syria’s conflict.

On Wednesday, protests were held in al-Qrayya town, south of Suwayda, calling for their political and economic demands to be met. A similar protest had been organized in the city two days before.

In late December, a social media post circulated pictures of anti-government graffiti on the streets of Damascus, its countryside, and Suwayda.
