Israel Threatens Iran with Preemptive Strikes Over Nuclear Program

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Aviv Kochavi, Israel’s outgoing army chief, revealed his government’s three-step attack plan against Iran in order to stem its nuclear program, The Defense Post reports.

The plan included preemptive strikes against non-nuclear targets, bombing nuclear sites and auxiliary installations, and, as a final step in escalation, attacking military sites and “other assets,” Kochavi is quoted as saying.

The general accused Tehran of having enriched enough uranium to produce four nuclear bombs. While the International Atomic Energy Agency, a UN watchdog, says Iran has enriched enough uranium to build at least one bomb. No reports suggest Iran has taken this step.

A plan to limit Iran’s nuclear program – the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action – was abandoned by the US under the Trump administration in 2018. Iran stopped abiding by its stipulations a year later.

It is unclear whether Israel’s new government, which was sworn in last month, will abide by the stipulated plan – or whether it might escalate it even further. The government in Jerusalem is said to be the most right-wing in the country’s history.
