Mine blast kills 2 children, injures 3 in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two children were killed and three others were injured on Sunday in a landmine explosion that is most likely left by Islamic State (ISIS) in a town east of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

A local source from the town of al-Dwair, east of Deir ez-Zor, run by Syrian government forces, said that two siblings were killed and three other children were injured in a landmine explosion.

The mine exploded while the children were playing near an abandoned building in al-Dwair, then the injured ones were transported to a hospital in the Syrian capital of Damascus to receive treatment.

The source said, citing a doctor in the hospital, that the children suffer from critical injuries.

Mines, explosive bombs, and unexploded ordnances were spread in the areas which witnessed battles among the conflicting parties in Syria.

The remnants of war are widely spread in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor as it was the last stronghold of ISIS, and they pose a threat to human life and especially children.

In October, a man lost his life in a landmine blast in the town of Marrat, east of Deir ez-Zor Governorate.
