AANES hands over woman, 2 children to Barbados
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced on Wednesday handing over a woman and two children of Islamic State (ISIS) family members to Barbados, a country in North America.
The AANES revealed that a Barbadian delegation, chaired by Andre Padmore the Counselor at Embassy of Barbados, visited northeast Syria on Jan. 9.
The delegation was received by officials from the Department of Foreign Relations, the Women’s Protection Unit (YPJ) Relation Office, Board of Women of the AANES.
Fanar al-Gaeit, the deputy co-chair of the AANES Foreign Affairs Department, stressed during the meeting the AANES will continue cooperation with Barbados and other nations with citizens in northeast Syria.
Padmore appreciated efforts by the AANES in fighting “terrorism” on behalf of the entire world and their help in succeeding the repatriation of the Barbadian citizens.
On Tuesday the department announced the handing over of two Spanish women and 13 children of the ISIS family members to the Spanish government.
It is the first batch of ISIS families of foreign nationalities leaving the camps of northeastern Syria in 2023.
On Wednesday, Matt Sugrue, Director of Programme Operations for Save the Children in Syria, described this step as “a very positive start” for the repatriated children and urged Spain to repatriate the four children and one woman still left in northeast Syria.
