ISIS attacks government outpost in Deir ez-Zor, loses militant
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, a militant of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) was killed following an attack against a military post of the Syrian government forces in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
A military source of the government forces in al-Jalaa town, north of al-Bukamal city near the Syrian-Iraqi border, told North Press that a machine-gun attack targeted a military post of the Fourth Armored Division of the government forces close to al-Jalaa town.
The attack resulted in killing an ISIS militant while the other attackers managed to flee, according to the source.
“The killed attacker, called Ahmad al-Najem, is a former ISIS militant and hails from al-Sukhnah town in eastern Homs,” the source added.
“According to his relatives, he had been out of sight since Deir ez-Zor was liberated from ISIS in 2017,” the source added.
The source noted that soldiers present at the outpost managed to push back the attackers and kill al-Najem after setting up an ambush near the outpost “which was targeted three times in the last few days before this one, but damage was limited to material.”
The military posts of the government forces in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate are repeatedly attacked, resulting in causalities amid the government failure to pursue the assailants and arrest them.
On Sunday, the residents of al- Masrab town in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor found a body of a military officer of the government forces who was shot dead in the desert surrounding the town. He was found five days after his disappearance.
