Syrian government raises price of gasoline

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Syrian Government increased the price of the 95-Octane gasoline coinciding with the fuel crisis in the areas under its control.

The rise came after the decision issued by the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection of the Syrian Government. The decision was posted on its official page on Facebook.

The decision set the price of 95-Octane gasoline at 5.750 Syrian pounds (SYP, $0.9) per a liter.

This is the second rise in less than a month, as on December 5, 2022, it set the price at 4.900 SYP (approximately $0.85 at the time) per a liter.

The government-held areas are witnessing severe fuel shortages and soaring prices of the commodities and food products due to the collapse of the Syrian pound against the US Dollar, which negatively impacts people’s lives.
