ISIS claims attack on Syria’s Raqqa
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed on Monday the attack on the headquarters of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the city of Raqqa, northern Syria.
Early on Monday, two militants of a sleeper cell of ISIS attacked one of the Asayish headquarters.
Ali Hejjo, Co-chair of the Interior Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said three members of the Asayish and three fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) lost their lives.
The ISIS-run Amaq news agency posted a statement announcing the group’s responsibility for the attack.
According to the statement, two militants carried out the attack, adding that 6 members of the Asayish lost their lives and 10 others were wounded.
Hejjo added that the Asayish managed to kill one of the ISIS attackers and arrest the other, who was wearing a suicide vest.
On the background of the attack, the Raqqa Civil Council of the AANES declared a state of emergency in the city of Raqqa until further notice.
