Turkish shelling targets Syrian government outpost in Kobani
KOBANI, Syria (North Press)- Late on Tuesday, Turkish artillery shelled a post held by Syrian government forces in the village of Gur Ali, some 30 km west of Kobani city, northern Syria.
A military source told North Press, “Turkish forces shelled with a number of artillery shells from behind the border a post held by Syrian army in the village of Gur Ali.”
The source added that shelling caused no human losses while villagers were forced to leave their village and head to the south fearing an escalation.
Since October 2019, government forces have been deployed to the village of Gur Ali according to the Sochi agreement signed between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin following Turkey’s invasion of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad.
Earlier, Turkish forces shelled the village of Zire, some 40 km east of Kobani, with two artillery shells. No information were available on human losses or material damage.
It has been nearly a week since a relative calm prevailed in the countryside of Kobani following the violent aerial bombardment and artillery shelling against the region.
