ISIS claims attack against SDF in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed an attack against a checkpoint of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

ISIS-run Amaq news agency said in a statement militants of the organization targeted with machineguns al-Zerr checkpoint in the vicinity of the town of Shaafah, some 35 km east of Deir ez-Zor.

As a result of the attack, a fighter of the SDF lost his life.

On December 9, ISIS claimed two attacks against the SDF; one in the countryside of Hasakah Governorate and the other in Deir ez-Zor.

The SDF has not commented on the incidents yet.

Since the Turkish military escalation in north and northeast Syria, ISIS has exploited the situation and intensified its acts in the region. This raises the concerns of the locals.

Since November 20, Turkish forces have escalated their ground and air bombardment of many areas in northern Syria, severely damaging infrastructures, and causing civilian and military casualties.
