HTS plans drones, missiles attack on Russian base in Syria – Khmeimim

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria, affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Defense,  announced on Wednesday militants of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) are planning to attack Khmeimim Airbase with drones and missiles.

Major General Oleg Yegorov, deputy chief of the Russian Reconciliation Center said, based on information obtained, HTS militants are plotting an attack against the Russian airbase in Khmeimim “with the use of combat unmanned aerial vehicles and self-made MLRS with extended-range capability.”

Russian TASS cited Yegorov as saying that attacks are planned to be launched from mountainous area in Ubin, Kafr Din, Qayqoun and Kabanah, located in the of Latakia province in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

Additionally, the center called on the armed groups to abstain from “provocations and to embark on the path of peaceful settlement in the areas under their control.”

Early in November, the center said the HTS militants and the Turkistan Islamic Party  were preparing to attack the Russian base with the use of combat unmanned aerial vehicles and kamikaze drones.
