ISIS claims targeting SDF checkpoint in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed the responsibility for an operation against a checkpoint held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
ISIS-affiliated Amaq agency aired a footage showing militants of the group firing machine gun against an SDF checkpoint at the entrance of the village of Hariji in east al-Suwar town in north Deir ez-Zor.
An SDF fighter was killed in the operation, the radical group claimed.
Recently, ISIS sleeper cells have intensified their activities in Deir ez-Zor following the group’s announcement of its leader’s death.
On Wednesday, ISIS announced that its overall leader Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi was killed and named Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurayshi as the group’s new leader.
On November 29, the group claimed responsibility for an IED explosion in the city of Raqqa, north Syria.
