FSA kills ISIS overall leader in Syria’s Daraa – CENTCOM

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Wednesday the death of the Islamic State’s (ISIS) leader, Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in Daraa Governorate, southwest Syria.

“The death of Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi in mid-October is another blow to ISIS. This operation was conducted by The Free Syrian Army in Dar’a province in Syria,” said Col. Joe Buccino, US CENTCOM spokesman.

The statement added that terrorist group still poses a threat to the region. “ISIS remains a threat to the region. CENTCOM and our partners remain focused on the enduring defeat of ISIS.”

Earlier today, the organization’s media affiliate al-Furqan aired an audio by the group’s spokesman Abu Omar al-Muhajer, announcing the death of al-Hassan al-Hashimi.

The group named Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurayshi as new leader.

In October 2019, the group’s leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed by US troops, and his successor Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi was killed in a similar act in February 2022.
