Turkey strikes 47 Syrian villages in 9th day of assault

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Media Center revealed on Tuesday toll of villages targeted by Turkey in ninth day of its aggression on areas in northeast Syria.

The SDF center, in a statement, said Turkey targeted 47 villages in the region with over 286 attacks via artillery, mortars and tanks.

Since Nov. 20, Turkish forces have escalated shelling of the areas in northeastern Syria, causing devastation in infrastructures, and civilian and military casualties.

The SDF added villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo were hit with more than 132 artillery shells and 17 mortars.

Meanwhile, villages and areas in the countryside of the town of Tel Tamr north of Hasakah, northeast Syria, were shelled with over 20 artillery shells, according to the statement.

Other villages in north of Hasakah underwent Turkish shelling with about 48 artillery shells.

 The Turkish forces targeted, with ten mortars, 20 artillery shells and six tank’s strikes, villages and areas in the countryside of the city of Kobani, north Syria.

Villages in the countryside of the city of Manbij, northern Syria, also witnessed Turkish shelling with around 11 artillery shells.

Villages in the countryside of Tel Abyad north of Raqqa and the M4 Highway witnessed shelling with tanks and mortars in addition to an attack with a Turkish drone.

Turkey also targeted several villages in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, nearly 70 kilometers from the Turkish border, with 15 artillery shells and seven mortars.

The statement noted that SDF thwarted an infiltration attempt by Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions, also known Syrian National Army (SNA), in Aleppo northern countryside.
