Missiles hit US military base in Syria’s Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Explosions were heard on Friday night in the vicinity of US military base in the town of Shaddadi in the southern countryside of Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria.
A military source told North Press that four missiles were exploded close to the US base and the building of al-Jebesah oil fields at the outskirts of Shaddadi.
The source suggested that Iranian-backed militias targeted the base.
The missiles were launched from 47 Area in the northwestern countryside of Shaddadi, the source added.
In February 2013, following fierce battles between the Syrian government forces on the one hand and the Syrian armed opposition factions and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) on the other, the government withdrew from Shaddadi.
A year later, ISIS attacked Shaddadi, resulting in fierce fighting between ISIS and the opposition factions, which lasted for days to end up with ISIS taking control over the town.
In 2016, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with support of the US-led Global Coalition managed to take control over the town.
The targeting caused material damages with any casualties, according to the source.
Following the attacks, members of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) deployed in the region amid intense flight of helicopters and warplanes.
