Turkey cannot invade Syria without American-Russian approval – PYD leader
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Saleh Muslim, co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), said on Tuesday that Turkey is unable to launch a large scale military operation on northern Syria without the approval of at least the guarantor states in Syria.
In a statement to North press, Muslim added that the US statements about the massive Turkish attacks on northeastern Syria are “conflicting.”
On Sunday dawn, Turkey has started launching large scale airstrikes on dozens of posts along the Syrian-Turkish border in northeastern Syria. The airstrikes are still continues not to mention constant ground shelling, killing and injuring dozens of civilians and military personnel.
He pointed out that some officials in the US call for stopping the military escalation, while others talk about the operations’ impacts on the efforts of fighting Islamic State Organization (ISIS).
On Monday, The US urged Turkey to de-escalate and to focus on fighting ISIS, “We urge de-escalation in Syria to protect civilian life and support the common goal of defeating ISIS.”
Muslim criticized the position of the states involved in Syria’s conflict, saying, “We think that there are compromises on this issue.”
He deemed that no one of these states stands by the Kurds, saying, “killing them [the Kurds] in this way does not matter to these countries … This was evident through the recent attacks.”
The Kurdish politician made it clear that they have no idea about the ongoing compromises, but it is evident that all this happens during the ongoing Astana meetings and everything will become clear after these meetings over.
