Two people killed in landmine blast in Syria’s Manbij

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Two people lost their lives on Tuesday in a landmine explosion in a village in south of Manbij city, northern Syria.

A source from the town of al-Aloush, 23 km south of Manbij city, said that each of Jamal al-Atiya and a man called Abu Ahmed lost their lives due to a landmine explosion.

The source did not know if the mine was a remnant of the Syrian war or if it was recently planted.

The biggest number of the landmines’ fatalities in Syria was recorded in 2020, ahead of Afghanistan, according to an annual report by Landmine Monitor of ICBL’s research and monitoring initiative and the de facto monitoring regime for the Mine Ban Treaty.
