Government strikes Turkish base in Syria’s Afrin

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces shelled on Monday a Turkish base on the outskirts of the village of Maryamin in Sharan district in Afrin, in the countryside of Aleppo.

A local source told North Press the shelling targeted the Turkish base with several missiles, resulting in material losses in the targeted site.

The shelling caused smoke columns to rise from the base due to the direct targeting, the source said without revealing the extent of losses in the site.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said Turkish forces shelled the village of Shawargha in Sharan district in response for targeting their base.

However, no additional information was reported.

Afrin, a Kurdish city in the north of Aleppo, has been under the occupation of Turkey and its affiliated armed Syrian opposition, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), since March 2018 following the operation “Olive Branch” which resulted in the displacement of about 300.000 people of the original inhabitants of the city and its countryside.
