3 children injured in war remnant blast in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Three children were seriously injured on Thursday when an object from remnants of war exploded with them in the city of Daraa, south Syria.
A local source told North Press that three children from the Abu al-Qiyas family were seriously injured in the al-Arbaeen neighborhood of Daras city due to an explosion of a strange object while they were investigating it.
He added that one of the children lost one of his arms, and he was taken with the others to Daraa National Hospital to provide them with the necessary treatment.
He noted that the residents of many neighborhoods in Daraa city suffer from the spread of war remnants in their residential areas. These explosive objects come from the Syrian government shelling that hit the city during the past years, he said.
Since the Syrian government forces took control of Daraa in 2018, community leaders of the area have repeatedly called on the government to send teams of combat engineers to remove these objects, but their calls are yet to be met, the source continued.
Explosive remnants of war have claimed the lives of many residents over the past years, most of whom are children and farmland workers.
For a week, the city of Daraa has witnessed a state of security tension against the backdrop of a military campaign launched by local gunmen against cells of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the city. In the campaign, three of the local gunmen were killed, and 10 of ISIS, in addition to one child.
