Largest hospital in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor partial renovated
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Due to poor financial possibilities, only one floor in the new hospital in al-Kasrah west of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, is to be restored, an official in health field in Deir ez-Zor Civil Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Monday.
Al-Kasrah Hospital was established in 2010, consisting of three floors that were damaged during battled to expel Islamic State Organization (ISIS) at hands of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) supported by the US-led Global Coalition.
Muhammad al-Salem, co-chair of the AANES Health Committee in the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council, said based on the poor possibilities, “one floor only is to be renovated.”
He told North Press that the Health Committee tries to secure more support to renovate the whole hospital, on a space of about 1.875 m².
On October 29, Tareq Ibrahim, a director of al-Kasrah Hospital, said that support provided by local and international organizations is “insufficient”, in light of the region’s need for health support.
After the completion of renovation, all clinics and services will be transferred to the new building, according to al-Salem.
If the hospital is entirely renovated, it serves an area of about 100 kilometers that lacks health care, extending from the eastern countryside of Raqqa in the west, to the 7 km region in the east and Abdulaziz Mountain in the north.
He added the hospital should be fully rehabilitated in order to provide advanced health services, including dialysis, surgeries, cardiac operations, pediatric and incubators.
The Health Committee’s possibilities are insufficient to rehabilitate the entire hospital, according to al-Salem.
On September 16, al-Salem said that the suspected cases of cholera reached 300 in hospitals and health centers in Deir ez-Zor.
On September 20, Tareq al-Ibrahim noted to the formation of an emergency cell from hospital nurses and doctors to deal with the increasing infections of cholera.
