Turkish shelling of villages in Syria’s Hasakah persisting for 4 days

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, Turkish forces and their affiliated armed Syrian opposition factions shelled, for the fourth successive day, villages in the countryside of the town of Zirgan (Abu Rasain) north of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.

A military source told North Press, “The Turkish forces targeted early in the morning the village of Tel al-Ward and Khirbat al-Shaer in the countryside of Zirgan.”

The shelling resulted in material losses in civilians’ possessions. However no further details have been obtained so far.

The Turkish forces and their affiliated factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), for days have been targeting villages of Zirgan.

Turkey the SNA factions keep violating ceasefire agreement signed with guarantor countries [Russia and the US].

Following the Turkish operation “Peace Spring” in October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US stipulating ceasing all hostilities and the withdrawal of the SDF 32 km away from the Turkish border.

The SDF did withdrew from the border areas according to the agreement, but Turkey continues targeting the area.

A soldier of the Syrian government forces was killed while five others were wounded on Thursday night in Turkish shelling of government’s outposts on the outskirts of the village of Tel al-Ward.
