Turkey seeks to kill the Syrian issue – SDC

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Anas al-Marfou, Co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) Relations Committee in Deir ez-Zor, said on Tuesday that Turkey aims at extinguish the Syrian issue and that everybody should rally around the Autonomous Administration of Northeast Syria (AANES).

Turkey and Iran are trying to kill the Syrian cause and bury the aims and principles which Syrians have been working hard to achieve for the last 12 years, the co-chair said.

This came during an SDC forum with a group of parties and organizations in the town of Hajin in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. The forum aimed to discuss challenges which the Syrian issue faces.

The SDC is the political wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). It was founded in 2015 and includes all the communities of north and east Syria.

Al-Marfou added, “Turkey commits the most heinous humanitarian crimes against our people in the areas under its control including murder, deportation, colonization, destroying homes, and chopping down trees.”

Turkey is working through the Syrian opposition on destroying all solutions, and what Turkey is doing should be a motive to the Syrian parties to put an end to their disputes, the official stated.

Al-Marfou stressed that “All components of the Syrian people should gather around and support the AANES model.”

The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there.

He said, “The sovereignty of the Syrian territories belongs to the Syrian people, and the Turkish plan of reconciling with the Syrian government is aimed to kill the Syrian cause.”

On August 11, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told reporters in the 13th Ambassadors Conference in Ankara about Turkish efforts to reconcile between the Syrian government and the opposition.

Earlier on April 20, Cavusoglu hinted at the possibility of security talks with the Syrian government. However, the Syrian government denied such cooperation saying, “There can be no cooperation in the fight against terrorism with a terrorist regime that supports, trains and spreads terrorism in the region and the world,” said SANA, the Syrian state-run news agency on April 22.
