Iran says ‘regional atmosphere’ proper for talks with Saudi

DAMASCUSE, Syria (North Press) – Iranian Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday that “regional environment” is proper to take new round negotiations with Saudi Arabia.

Iran and Saudi Arabia held five rounds of security talks in Iraq, which plays the role of mediator between the two countries.

The last round of talks was held in July.

Iran supports the opening of embassies in Saudi and Iran.

The two countries also recently have agreed to alleviate the dialogue to a political level.

Nasser Kanaani, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, said Iran and Saudi can cooperate in many fields if bilateral negotiations succeed.

Hussein Amir Abdollahian, Iranian Foreign Minister, hops for speeding up the new round of negotiations.

In a previous statement, the adviser to the Iranian conservative for International Affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, confirmed that Iran and Saudi are neighbors and that Iran has no problem with Saudi.

He said, “We are neighbors of Saudi Arabia and we must coexist. The embassies of the two countries should reopen in order to solve our problems in a better way.”

The Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, indicated that the dialogue between the two countries has not reached “tangible results,” but his country waits results of the sixth round.

The two regional rivals back opposite sides in ongoing wars in Yemen, Syria and others.

In January 2016, Saudi severed relations with Iran after its embassy in Tehran and its consulate were attacked by protesters over the execution of opposition Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr.
