DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Two soldiers of the government forces were killed on Sunday, after being targeted by un identified gunmen in the western countryside of Daraa.
An unknown body was also found at the same area.
A local source told North Press, “Mohammed Qamhani along with his brother were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the village of Tel Shihab in the western countryside of Daraa.”
“The two brothers hail from the town of al-Yadudah, west Daraa, and were former members in the opposition ranks. They later joined the government’s 4th Armored Division after the government forces re-captured Daraa governorate in 2018.”
In July 2018, the Syrian opposition armed factions and government forces reached a settlement agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, the opposition militants who agreed to hand over their heavy weapons were handed a settlement card and allowed to stay in Daraa, while those opposed the agreement would go to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).
In a separate context, the same source said, “The residents of Tel Shihab village found an unidentified body near the village’s roundabout.”
The residents took the body to Tafas Hospital, hoping that some of his relatives would show up and identify the body, the source continued.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with daily assassinations targeting civilians, and members of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
