Syria’s AANES distributes 51 power transformers

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) distributed 51 electric power transformers to towns and cities of Jazira region instead of those were vandalized and stolen in the years of war.

Transport and Energy Office in Jazira region said in a statement that electric power system has been deliberately vandalized and stolen for three consecutive years by “some weak-spirited people.”

The Energy Board indicated that electric power transformers will be distributed as follows: 19 in Hasakah, nine in the town of Hawl, six in Shaddadi, five in Tel Brak, four in Amuda, three each in Darbasiyah and Tel Hamis and one each in Qamishli and al-Qahtaniya (Terbe Spi).

The transformers with capacity of between 25 and 360 KW cost $250.000, according to the statement.

Jazira region especially Hasakah and its countryside suffer from frequent power outage due to stealing bases of electricity poles thus the poles fall down in case of winds.

The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there.
