AANES hands over fourth batch of ISIS children to Moscow

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) handed over on Thursday 38 ISIS children of Russian nationality to their country.

A delegation headed by Maria Lvova Belova, Russian President’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights visited AANES-held areas and met with Khaled Ibrahim, member of the AANES Department of Foreign Relations in the city of Qamishli.

The AANES handed over the children after the Russian delegation signed the delivery documents.

Both parties held a press conference after completing the procedures. Lvova Belova commended the AANES on facilitating handing over the children to the Russian government.

“We are so happy because the Kurdish side [AANES] is helping us in returning Russian children who exist in the various refugee camps located in these lands,” she said.

She expressed hope to continue cooperating with the AAES, adding, “Today, we agreed on new children batches that we will receive from Roj and Hawl camps.”

For his part, Ibrahim said, they handed over 38 children to the Russian Federation adding, “The total number of children delivered to the Russian Federation is more than 300 children.”

This is the fourth batch of ISIS Russian nationals the AANES hands over to Moscow.

In 2022, the AANES has handed over 30 children of ISIS to Russia in three batches; the first was in February, the second was in April and the third was in July.
