10 killed in clashes between local gunmen, ISIS in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Ten people were killed on Saturday, including a leader of the Islamic State (ISIS), in clashes between local gunmen and ISIS militants in Jasim town in Daraa northern countryside, south Syria.
A local sources told North Press, “Local militants with the support of the Eighth Brigade of the Russian-backed Fifth Corps, are still pursuing ISIS members in Jasim city.”
The source added that clashes took place in the Western neighborhood, where a number of ISIS militants are holed up in a farm, refusing to surrender.
The source said that the local gunmen urged residents, through loudspeakers, to stay in their homes. The local gunmen extended a curfew imposed in the town since early on Friday without setting a deadline for it.
In addition, the Syrian government’s Education Directorate in the town informed the town’s schools to suspend work tomorrow on Sunday.
Since Friday morning, four local gunmen and six ISIS militants were killed, including an Iraqi leader named Abdulrahman al-Iraqi.
The Syrian government forces and their security services were absent from the ongoing clashes in the town, according to the source.
Since the Syrian government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with assassinations, arrests and thefts taking place on a daily basis, amid the government’s failure to hold it under control.
