Former head of SNC mocks HTS over developments in Syria’s Afrin

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Former president of Syrian National Coalition (SNC) Naser al-Hariri mocked President of Syrian Interim Government who posted a tweet over developments in Afrin north of Aleppo.

Al-Hariri’s words on Twitter came in response to Abdurrahman Mustafa, president of the Interim Government, post on Friday, claiming that bodies of his government are in complete control of the situation in Afrin.

This took place on the back drop of ongoing clashes between Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Third Legion, affiliated with Turkish-backed Syrian National Army.

Mustafa said on Twitter, “Syrian Interim Government continues to run the city of Afrin, while other forces left the city.”

The tweet was faced with mocking by Syrians.

Al-Hariri responded with a mocking tune saying, “Yes, Abu Ghanoum did not got martyred or assassinated, but it was a representational image only, as shelling was firecracker.”

In the tweet, al-Hariri added, “No protests were organized but rainfalls, no displacement occurred but people were in a picnic, and nobody entered Jindires and Afrin but they were passing for Umrah.”

Days ago, HTS started taking control over several areas in northwest Syria particularly towns in Afrin to the detriment of the Syrian National Army.

President of the Interim Government said that civil and military bodies “are still working and they continue to offer services to the city.”

Following an initial agreement on Friday between leaders of HTS and the Third Legion to end hostilities, clashes renewed in the countryside of Afrin.

Earlier on Friday, military reinforcements to Turkish-backed Third Legion arrived to Kafr Janneh in the countryside of the city of Afrin, amidst ongoing clashes with HTS in the region.

Afrin, a Kurdish city in the north of Aleppo, has been under the occupation of Turkey since March 2018 following a military operation called “Olive Branch” which resulted in the displacement of about 300.000 people of the original inhabitants of the city and its countryside.

The areas held by the SNA factions, for three days, have been witnessing unrest due to clashes with Hamza Division on the back of killing an activist and his wife at the hand of the division’s militants.
