Reinforcements to Turkish-backed Third Legion arrive in Syria’s Afrin

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, Military reinforcements to Turkish-backed Third Legion arrived to Kafr Janneh in the countryside of the city of Afrin north of Aleppo, amidst ongoing clashes with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) in the region.

An exclusive source told North Press that the Third Legion sent military reinforcements from the city of Azaz north of Aleppo to Kafr Janneh to counter the HTS’ advancement into the region.

The source added the reinforcements including military vehicles, heavy machineguns and mortars were sent to contact lines with HTS.

The Third Legion managed to damage a vehicle of the HTS in the same region and captured two militants during the advancement, according to the source.

Kafr Janneh has been witnessing fierce clashes between the two parties, resulting in killing and wounding of militants of both parties in the same region without any advancement by both parties, according to the source.

Afrin, a Kurdish city in the north of Aleppo, has been under the occupation of Turkey since March 2018 following a military operation called “Olive Branch” which resulted in the displacement of about 300.000 people of the original inhabitants of the city and its countryside.

The areas held by the SNA factions, for three days, have been witnessing unrest due to clashes with Hamza Division on the back of killing an activist and his wife at the hand of the division’s militants.
