Sere Kaniye IDPs’ Committee hands protest notes to Russia, US
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A delegation of the Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) IDPs’ Committee delivered on Wednesday two protest notes, one to the US-led Coalition to Defeat ISIS and the other to Russia.
The notes, which were delivered at the office of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) in the city of Qamishli, included an invitation for the two concerned states to play their role and adopt the crimes that are documented by the committee.
Residents of Sere Kaniye formed on July 9, 2021, a committee under the name “Sere Kaniye Displaced People Committee,” in order to document the crimes committed by Turkey and its affiliated opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), against the residents in the city, and to achieve a safe and dignified return.
In October 2019, the Turkish military and its affiliated SNA launched a military operation under the name of “peace Spring” and occupied the border towns of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad, leading to the displacement of about 300.000 of the region’s original inhabitants.
Mahmoud Jamil, the committee’s spokesman, told North Press that one of the notes was delivered to Russia, through the department of Foreign Relations in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
He added that the other was handed over to the US-led Coalition during the committee’s visit to the Coalition’s headquarters in Hasakah city, northeastern Syria.
Jamil continued, “The notes included documented violations committed by the Turkish forces and affiliated SNA through the past three years.”
The occupied areas, the spokesman said, have turned into a safe haven for all kinds of terrorists, such as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and other extremist factions who find these areas as breeding ground to execute their criminal acts.
Jwan Esau, activist and relations officer in the Sere Kaniye IDPs’ Committee referred to the two states as “not performing their role as required.”
“They have a timid role in dealing with the crimes that are documented by the committee,” Esau said.
Esau stated that they handed over another note to the AANES Department of Foreign Relations with the aim of urging them to raise the level of coordination and open diplomatic channels with countries abroad, by sending delegations from the committee to these states.
