Government forces send reinforcements to north Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces sent on Monday military reinforcements to one of their outposts in the vicinity of a town in the northern countryside of Daraa, south Syria, amid residents’ fear of more restrictions.
A local source told North Press, “Government forces reinforced a military post in the vicinity of Jasim town with a tank and about 10 soldiers, accompanied by a colonel and a first lieutenant.”
The reinforcements arrived this morning, coming from the hills near the city, the source said, adding that they belong to the government forces’ 9th Division.
The residents of Jasim town fear that restrictions will increase, or that military action will follow, according to the source.
On September 7, Brigadier Louay al-Ali, head of the Military Security Branch of the government forces in Daraa, met with community leaders of Jasim. In the meeting, al-Ali threatened to storm the city if they did not hand over those wanted by the government.
Three days ago, government forces brought in five tanks to Daraa and stationed them in the city’s municipal stadium, their main headquarters in the governorate.
