Clashes erupt between SDF, armed group in Syria’s Manbij

MANBIJ, Syria (North press) – Manbij Military Council (MMC), affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), along with the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) carried out on Monday a joint security operation in the village of Aoun al-Dadat in north of Manbij, northern Syria, after receiving information that gunmen were present there.

At the beginning of October, Aoun al-Dadat village witnessed tension between the Asayish and al-Aoun clan after the first arrested a smuggler.

The MMC Media Center said, “During the raid, the Manbij Military Council and the Asayish clashed with an armed group, supported by the Turkish-backed factions,” also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), which control the nearby areas of Jarabulus, Azaz and al-Bab.

He added, “The gunmen were cordoned off, and the clashes ended with arresting 15 militant and killing two.”

After the operation, the Asayish announced imposing a total curfew in the village, and gave other wanted men a deadline to surrender, according to the MMC Media Center.

The city of Manbij, east of Aleppo, is one of the most important industrial centers in northern Syria, as it is a transportation hub and sits on a commercial road linking the areas held by the Autonomous Administration with those of the Syrian government, in addition to opposition-held areas in northern Syria.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) supported by the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS liberated Manbij from ISIS in 2016 following fierce battles.
